ASNT

The American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) has established SNT-TC-1A, “Recommended Practice for Personnel Qualification and Certification.” This practice is used by industries through the world as a guideline for qualifying and certifying NDT personnel. As stated in TC-1A, “the effectiveness of NDT applications depends upon the capabilities of the personnel who are responsible for, and perform, NDT”.  Personnel must be proficient in the nondestructive test(s) for which they are responsible. Your clients will often look at your qualification program to determine if you have taken appropriate steps to insure that your NDT staff are proficient. NDT-CGI can establish or audit your program to insure that your NDT personnel are competent and that your program meets your client’s requirements. We can also provide written and practical qualification examinations. To learn more about qualification and certification, we recommend you visit ASNT's web site and read this article.

Examinations involving general, specific and practical assessment are available in:

ultrasonics

radiography

radiographic interpretation

magnetics

penetrant

and are conducted by TESC International / TWI Level 3 personnel qualified by examination.

PCN

The PCN scheme, an internationally recognized scheme for the certification competence of NDT personnel, is accredited as meeting the requirements of European Standards EN 45013 and EN 473, and international standard ISO 9712.

Certificates of competence are valid for five years from issue, following a demonstration of qualification which includes specific periods of training and experience, and a thoroughly searching independent examination.

The scheme offers three levels of certification specific to industry sectors and NDT methods are defined as follows.

TESC International in collaboration with TWI offers the following PCN examinations.

Ultrasonic testing of aerospace materials, components and structures, welds and wrought products

  Radiation safety and radiation protection

Radiography of aerospace materials, components and structures, aerospace welds (includes interpretation)

Interpretation of radiographs of welds (as a separate certificate)

Eddy current testing of aerospace materials, components and structures, castings, welds and wrought products

Magnetic particle testing of aerospace materials, castings, welds and wrought products

Liquid penetrant testing of aerospace materials, castings, welds and wrought products

PCN Requirements
